JULY 2020 NEWS:
We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered and contributed to Provisions 3rd Annual Writers Reading Event. It was an amazing weekend full of free speech, beautiful art, moving music, dancing, smiles and laughter. Appreciation to Laurence for opening the event with his words as well as sharing stories throughout the weekend, and to Tolling, Doug, Dave, Ginja, Chaya, and Maryanne for sharing their stories and poems.
A massive thank you to Natty Potashnick and Bev Finch for taking time out of their busy lives to come to the island to play music for us and also to local musicians Darlene, Merrick, Gretje, Dave, Noah, Gavia, Rick, Ken and Colleen for performing as well. Thanks to Tony, Ty, Ginja, Gordon, Marisol, Maryanne, Darlene, Mary and Dianna for their art displays, some of which will continue through the summer for those who did not get a chance to see them yet.
Let's give a big hand specifically to Ty who assisted in displaying other artists work as well as his own.
Gratitude to Anneleise, Cassandra, Jaya and Shoshanna for volunteering to work the gate. A special thank you to Ian for dedicating his weekend to set up the sound system and do audio for the event which was recorded on a file and may be available in the future for those who wanted to hear the readings and performances but were not there.
A giant thank you all around for those who worked in the kitchen to provide sustenance for those who attended. A total of $442.50 dollars was raised for the Arts Council throughout the weekend and it's really terrific to see how many folks came out to support the arts. Looking forward to next year already, thank you to the community for coming together and showing how much you love to honour your writers, painters, musicians and neighbours!
Pizza Nights, Thali Tuesdays and Taco Tuesdays
In July we will continue to hold Thali Tuesdays and Taco Tuesdays. This month for Thali Tuesday, July 7th, we will be journeying to the Southern State of Chennai to celebrate our take on their cuisine. Traditional ingredients include lentils, rice, chicken, lamb, fish, coconut, tomatoes, green chilies, poppy seeds, star anise, bay leaves and tumeric.
Rice is the staple food of South India and it is typically consumed for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Watch for our menu to be posted and allow us to take you on a journey to India without ever leaving the island!
Taco Tuesdays will continue to be a take out feature, drop by and pick up a dinner for two to take home for you and your family. Pizza Nights will be held very soon but not every Friday this year. Notices and menus for both will be shared prior to the events.
False Bay Provisions Book Store
A quick reminder for those who love to read, the book store is open and is stocked with new titles for you to enjoy. All the sales go towards purchasing new books for False Bay School and restocking the book store itself. Please come and peruse the books if you are looking for something to read this summer and consider donating any books you may feel ready to part with and or share with others. We are specifically looking for books on flora, fauna, local or Canadian authors, non-fiction, marine focused and or new fiction and childrens books. Thank you to those of you who contributed last month, every book you buy or give can mean a new book for the school library. Come look and see if there is something you would like to read or gift to a friend or loved one.
